I wish I had been familiar with this C.S. Lewis quote when I was a freshman attending a small
Paul reminds Timothy not to be deceived by "opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge." "Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge." (1 Tim. 6:20, NIV)
My point is this…the bible says to always be ready to make an account of your faith. Unfortunately, I was not comfortable enough to live out 1 Pet 3:15: which says, "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…" Hmm…"gentleness and respect" so much for bible belting him…(:
Parents, we need to set in our children's hearts a faith that is fervently grounded in Christ. It may be the best gift we can give our children. It should be our number one priority. It is their only hope to know right from wrong in a world that has cleverly rearranged those two things. Anyone not grounded in Christ will be deceived. And sadly, it probably won't take until their freshmen year in college to meet "what is falsely called knowledge." Unfortunately, it runs rampant in our society. So, don't be like me. Be better! Be poised and ready to defend your faith when asked. (Bible-belting optional, but not preferred! LOL!)
