The Crowne Plaza Invitational began this morning (Thursday), but my fantasy picks were in on time. So far, I'm looking like a smart man (that doesn't happen too often).

Here are my picks for this week's event.

A PLAYERS: PHIL MICKELSON and SCOTT VERPLANK – Mickelson won here the last time he played in the event. Remember the pitching wedge under one tree and over another? How about the guy who did the cannonball into the lake beside the 18th green after Mickelson made the putt? Either way, Mickelson arguably is the hottest player on Tour right now and deserves to start on ANY fantasy team when he plays. Everyone in my league had him starting this week. As for Verplank, he's just filling out the bench unless Mickelson collapses.

B PLAYERS: SEAN O'HAIR, JEFF OVERTON, BO VAN PELT, and FREDRIK JACOBSEN – O'Hair, Overton and Jacobsen completed their rounds before I finished writing this. Here is who makes me look smart: Jeff Overton. He shot a first round 63 to tie for the lead. That'll help score some big points early. O'Hair and Jacobsen played well. Van Pelt plays with Mickelson in the first two rounds, and Van Pelt has been one of the guys who is hitting the ball REALLY well right now. I expect big things from him this week.

C PLAYERS: BEN CRANE and DAVIS LOVE III – Crane has a victory this year on Tour, and Love III has played well lately. I wasn't particularly happy with the choices for the C group, but you have to choose someone. We will see how these guys do this week.
