So, my first Father's Day as a dad, and I get to spend it at work ALL day. I won't complain, though, I have a beautiful daughter who nearly is 11 months old. All the Father's Day commercials and references meant a little more today.
That is what made the Final Round of the U.S. Open that much more memorable for Graeme McDowell. His father spent the final round following him around Pebble Beach, and when McDowell tapped in an 8-inch putt for par on the 18th hole to secure a one-stroke victory, the emotion started flowing. McDowell's father ran on to the green and embraced his son and told him that he's something. What a finish. The other players whittled when it mattered most.
DUSTIN JOHNSON
Johnson struggled more than any other player in the final round. He began three strokes ahead of McDowell, but he shot a final round 82. He refused a couple interviews at the end of the round, and I'm sure if his name was Tiger Woods we would hear a little bit more about that. Anyway, Johnson made a triple bogey on the second hole and never recovered. What started as what many thought would be a Swan Song final round for Johnson turned into a Jason Gore disaster. He didn't card a birdie and finished tied for eighth.
ERNIE ELS
Els had the best chance of the big names to leave Pebble Beach with the championship. He came close several times to making a putt at the right time, but most slid harmlessly by the lip of the hole. He finished the first nine holes at 2-under par, but he shot a 40 on the back nine to ruin his chances at a victory. Els was my favorite to win the tournament, and a third-place finish isn't bad, but I'm sure he expected more out of this week.
PHIL MICKELSON
Awww shucks. Mickelson looked prime to make a run after making a birdie on the first hole of the final round, but then he remembered he is Phil Mickelson and can't possibly win a U.S. Open. I'm kidding, but he fell apart, again. He didn't make the putts when he needed them, and he missed shots when he normally makes them. He made three bogeys on the back nine, and he never made another birdie after his 3 on the first hole. He finished tied for fourth with another big name ...
TIGER WOODS
I still can't believe that Tiger Woods can play poorly for three rounds and still finish tied for fourth. He did miss putts that he used to make. In fact, he left a lot of putts short that he normally put past the hole. He had about four putts that I think he should have made, which would have put him at 1-under and gave him the victory. He didn't perform when he needed to, though. He played himself out of the tournament well before his front nine was over, yet he still had a chance on the back nine. It's only a matter of time before he wins another tournament. I thought he would finish top 5 this week, and he did, so expectations were met.

RE: Tiger
The reason I think Woods played poorly is because he himself said so. We all know that Woods at his best is far superior than any other golfer. I think it's tough to say Tiger won't come close to the record. He only has to win five more Majors. Nicklaus won six after he turned 35. Woods is 34 and has 14. If he stays at the same pace, he will win 19. He's played average golf in two Major Championships and finished T4 in both. The man WILL finish with more Major Championship wins than Nicklaus, no question.
